ASTi to Exhibit at ITEC 2010

May 18-20, 2010
Booth #K112
www.itec.co.uk
May 13, 2010 – ASTi will be an exhibitor at ITEC 2010, Europe's premier defense training and simulation conference, in London, UK, May 18-20, 2010. ASTi is the leading supplier of digital audio communications to military and civilian organizations worldwide. Our sound and communications solutions scale to accommodate a variety of applications, even those with the most sophisticated training requirements.
Products and technologies ASTi will be highlighting at this year's exhibition include the following:

Telestra 4

ASTi's Telestra 4 platform and ACE software represent the training industry's most flexible hardware/software solution for DIS and HLA radio simulation, providing realistic radio communications and environmental cue modeling for military and commercial training applications. The sound and communications modeling toolset provides high-fidelity radio propagation and interoperable simulated radio communications. Other features include text-to-speech, speech recognition, crypto effects, 3-D audio, and FAA Level D/JAA certified sound modeling.

Voisus Technology

ASTi's Voisus Client-Server Technology offers a low-cost solution for network voice communications, simulation, and audio distribution. Thin-Client technology allows users to deploy Voisus operators on existing workstations, providing a convenient, economical and highly scalable network communications solution.

VBS2 Integration

ASTi is introducing the integration of ASTi simulated radios and communications modeling into Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2) featuring Voisus Technology. Voisus Technology software-based client/operator setup provides in-game radio and intercom capabilities as well as interoperability with DIS, HLA, and live radio communications in training exercises.
Visit booth #K112 for a demonstration of ASTi's systems, and to discuss your program's needs.

A-10 Upgrades at Air Force Research Laboratory

March 03, 2010 – ASTi recently shipped 14 Telestra 4 communications and aural cue systems for A-10 simulators to the Air Force Research Laboratory in Mesa, AZ. Replacing the legacy ASTi DACS systems, the Telestra 4 systems operate with ASTi's diskless architecture. The diskless systems adhere to multi-level security requirements by accessing the software over the network. The platforms will boot, load, and run models fully embedded eliminating the need for removable hard drives.
The A-10 simulation model was converted from a DACS Model Builder model to ACE software and was specially redesigned to utilize ASTi's ACE 3D Soundfield Reconstruction. This technology imparts a true 360-degree sound replay environment, in a way that no conventional surround system can provide.
The A-10 Thunderbolt, more commonly known as "Warthog," is an American single-seat, twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft that provides close air support for ground forces. To date, ASTi has shipped a total of 20 identical systems as part of the Lockheed Martin A-10 program.

ASTi Upgrades Target Acquisition School

Feb 24, 2010 – ASTi recently upgraded four communications systems for the Target Acquisition School in the 428th Fire Acquisition Training Center, in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. The communications systems were part of a hands-on training experience for the Urban Terrain Module (UTM), Open Terrain Module (OTM), and Close Air Support Module (CASM) in the Joint Fires and Effects Training System (JFETS) immersing the students in a simulated realistic environment that mirrors actual wartime situations.
The ASTi legacy workhorse DACS platform with Model Builder software was replaced with the latest Telestra 4 systems with ACE software extending the communication features to include:
  • Improved simulated radio and intercom performance
  • Greater networked communications processing
  • Drop and fit hardware replacement, no cable or peripheral changes required
The installation was quick and seamless with the ability to utilize the existing network and TDM cabling used by the DACS in the new T4 configuration. The customer was also able to re-use their existing simulated SINCGARS panels, Hand Held Terminals, Headsets, PTTs, and audio cabling since the new ACE-RIUs carry the same functionality and peripheral connection points as the RIU.
The DACS and RIUs, originally deployed in 2002, were transferred to another part of the facility for networked communications since they are still in excellent running order after eight years.
Ft. Sill also received a full ASTi Operations Training course to coincide with the installation of the new systems.

ASTi Supplies 39 Telestra 4 Systems for Boeing's T-38C Talon Upgrade

Feb 18, 2010 – ASTi recently supplied 39 Telestra 4 systems for Boeing's T-38C Avionics Upgrade Program. ASTi's latest Telestra 4 embedded, real-time sound and communications system replaced the legacy DACS platforms that were first shipped in 2000. The 10-year life cycle of this program affirms ASTi's commitment and support to ongoing production programs.
The DACS T-38 sound and communications model and sound files were converted using ACE Studio software for use on the Telestra 4 systems. The 8kHz sample rate sound files were updated to 48kHz high-fidelity digital audio files for modern trainer networked-based audio and I/O distribution. The Telestra 4 system was designed with backward compatibility for ancillary hardware, which eases installation by simply dropping in ACE-RIUs to replace RIUs. Boeing was able to re-use existing audio cabling and peripherals, saving them time and money.
The T-38 is a tandem seat twin-engine supersonic jet.

ASTi Meets Gold Standard

Feb 16, 2010 – Shipping 30-60+ audio and communication systems per month, ASTi's production team consistently meets customer requests and deadlines. ASTi recently scored a 100% gold supplier performance rating from The Boeing Company Supplier Performance Measurement report.
The composite gold level rating is based on an evaluation of quality and acceptance, performance and meeting the delivery schedule. Gold is the highest level in the certification process, which identifies and recognizes high-performing suppliers strategically important to Boeing.
ASTi has been providing audio and communication simulation systems to The Boeing Company since 1998.
