F/A-18 Follow-Ons
September 9, 2005 –
ASTi recently delivered four simulated communications and environmental cueing systems to L-3 Communications’ Link Simulation & Training division. Two of these systems will be used by the Naval Air Systems Command Training Systems Division (NAVAIR TSD) for F/A-18C Distributed Mission Training (DMT) tactical operational flight trainers (TOFTs). A total of 21 ASTi systems have been ordered for use in the NAVAIR F/A-18C DMT program, part of the Navy’s Aviation Simulation Master Plan. The other two systems will be integrated into F/A-18C/D aircrew flight trainers for the U.S. Marine Corps.
ASTi’s Digital Audio Communication Systems (DACS) will supply high-fidelity HLA radio communications, electronic warfare suite, navigational aides suite, and environmental cueing audio. ASTi Telestra platforms will provide HLA-compatibility for the simulated radio environment, and allow centralized, remote management of the various DACS computers.
ASTi has provided the simulated communications and aural cue subsystems for the Hornet training program since 1989.
*The NASMP is a U.S. Navy initiative to consolidate all major aviation training programs, linking them into an effective, networked training environment. The NASMP’s planning and acquisition phases are being performed by Naval Aviation Training Systems (PMA205), NAVAIR-TSD Orlando, and NAVAIR (NAWCAD) Pax River.
